Access by train from Vallorcine to Chamonix and around the valley
Vallorcine railway station is next to the telecabine and has hourly trains during the winter and summer seasons to and from Chamonix town. Trains leave Vallorcine on the hour for a scenic 35 minute ride to Chamonix with many stops along the way. From the train you can easily access La Poya beginners ski area from Le Buet; Le Tour and La Vormaine from Montroc; Les Grands Montets from Argentiere; La Flegere from Les Praz and Brevent and Les Houches from Chamonix via the bus network.
Access to Switzerland is also hourly from Vallorcine, with the cultural town of Martigny just a half hour away. Train travel is complimentary to Chamonix Access clients staying in Vallorcine using the 'guest card' provided with your accommodation.
Buses
The ski areas in the Chamonix valley are well serviced by environmentally friendly shuttle buses, so if you don't have access to a car, you need not worry! These frequent and well maintained buses are free to anyone with a ski pass or a visitor's card (Carte d'Hôte), which is free to get from your local tourist office, or may be supplied to you with your accommodation.
All lines start at the Chamonix Sud bus stop, and do a circuit in Chamonix Town. In high season, the shuttles run from 7.00am - 7.30pm, after that the Chamo'Nuit night bus services the routes at a fee (no night bus in the off season).
In high season, the waiting time is rarely more than 20 minutes, but it is best to consult the schedule.
