Hiking ideas
Even if you are not a typical "hiker" you cannot fail to enjoy the beauty and splendour of the mountains in the Chamonix valley. With almost endless amounts of routes, there are perfect opportunities for every level hiker to get their boots on and get out into the alpine air. We have listed below just a few ideas of hikes to get you started. If you are a complete beginner allow extra time for your walk and don't forget to bring water.
Le Lac Blanc
One of the most famous and beautiful lakes in the Aiguilles Rouges mountains which offer a unique and stunning panorama facing the Mont-Blanc.

- walking time : 1h45 from the Flégère cable car (1h15 from the Index chairlift).
- start : an altitude difference of 500 m (uphill) from the Flégère cable car and a difference of 250 m (downhill) from the Index chair lift.
- over night and refreshment facilities available seasonally at the Lac Blanc refuge.
Grand Balcon Sud
A magnificent hike along a natural terrace facing the Mont-Blanc, situated at around 2000m altitude.

- start : the Brévent cablecar or the Flégère cablecar
Grand Balcon Nord
A superb hike along this north-facing natural terrace which is dominated by Chamonix's majestic "Aiguilles" and links two of the most famous spots of the valley.

- walking time : 2h15
- start : the Aiguille du Midi cablecar (1st station) or the arrival station of the Montenvers train.
Le chalet des Pyramides
Looking over the Bossons glacier, discover exceptional views of ice blocks (seracs), pinnacles and crevasses, whist enjoying a completely different panorama of the beautiful Chamonix valley.

Le Col de Balme
These paths leading through alpine pastures offer superb views of the Chamonix valley, the Mont-Blanc range, the Aiguilles Rouges mountains and neighbouring Switzerland.
